Van Gaal not surprised by Rashford’s omission from Euro 2024 roster
“Manchester United manager Eric ten Haag says he is not surprised that Marcus Rashford has not been named in England’s Euro 2024 squad,” British outlet Goal.com reported on Sunday.
After a stellar first season in charge of United under Van Gaal, Rashford was at his worst in 2023/24, scoring just eight goals and providing five assists in 43 appearances across all competitions.
Without Rashford, the centerpiece of their attack, the team’s offense was dead. Rashford has received a lot of bad press, and his already weak mentality has become even weaker. As a result, Rashford was left out of the squad for Euro 2024 due to his poor form. Southgate left out established stars like Rashford, Jordan Henderson, and Raheem Sterling.
While some fans were baffled by Southgate’s decision, United boss Van Gaal felt it was fair to leave him out of the squad after his below-par performances. Speaking to ‘NOS’, van Gaal said: “Both Grealish and Rashford have not been good this season. And if you’re not good enough, you run the risk of not being selected for the national team,” he said.
Reflecting on his recent form, Rashford said: “It’s been a tough season, both individually and collectively.” While Rashford’s future remains unclear, he has announced that he will be taking a break from social media to recharge his batteries.
