Koh Woo-seok tries to make it to the big leagues

San Antonio Missions pitcher Woo-seok Ko (San Antonio Missions) threw a no-hitter in his first major league start of the year.

Ko, who plays for the San Diego Padres’ Double-A affiliate, pitched one inning of one-hit ball with two strikeouts and no walks in the bottom of the ninth inning of a 12-5 win over the Amarillo Sword Poodles of the Arizona Double-A affiliate on June 6 (KST).

After leading the LG Twins to the KBO pennant last year, Go signed a two-year, $9.4 million contract with the San Diego Padres in January.

However, Ko struggled in MLB exhibition games and did not make the final roster for Seoul’s opening game. In five appearances, he went 1-0 with a 12.46 ERA.

“The manager told me to prepare well (in the minors),” 안전놀이터 Go said at the time, adding, “I didn’t expect (this outcome) and didn’t challenge myself. It’s disappointing, but I’ll prepare well again.”

With no veto power over his demotion to the minors this year, Go will have to compete for a spot in the big leagues.
