Incheon’s Shinhan Bank earned its third win of the season over Yongin’s Samsung Sinsang.
Shinhan Bank defeated Samsung Sinsung 43-35 in an away game of the Woori Bank Woori WON 2023-2024 Women’s Professional Basketball Regular Season at Yongin Gymnasium.
The combined 78 points scored by the two teams on the night is a new record for the most points scored by two teams in a single game in the history of the 스포츠토토 Women’s Professional Basketball League.
The previous records were 84 points between Asan Woori Bank (55 points) and Busan BNK (29 points) on February 21, 2021, and Cheongju KB (50 points) and Shinhan Bank (34 points) on December 27, 2018.
Shinhan Bank, which recorded its second win of the season on Dec. 24 by beating Samsung Sinsung to snap a six-game losing streak, added another win against Samsung Sinsung in two games.
Shinhan Bank, at 3-14 on the season, remained at the bottom of the table, but cut the gap to fifth-place BNK (4-14) to 0.5 games, giving them hope of breaking away.
On the other hand, third-place Samsung Life, which failed to continue its two-game winning streak before the break, dropped to 8-9.
Shinhan Bank, led by Kim Sonia’s eight points, seven rebounds, and four assists in the first quarter, jumped out to a 27-18 lead and looked poised for its third win of the season.
After being held to just four points as a team in the second quarter, Samsung Life was held to single digits (9 points) in the third quarter as Shinhan extended its lead to 39-27.
The fourth quarter saw both teams go cold from the field, with Shinhan protecting its lead without much of a crisis.
Kim Sonia recorded a double-double (12 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 assists), followed by Kim Jin-young with 8 points and 8 rebounds, and Lee Kyung-eun with 8 points.
Shinhan Bank shot 14 three-pointers, failing to make any of them, but used a 45-25 rebounding advantage as a springboard to victory.
For Samsung Life, Bae Hye-yoon had a team-high nine points and 10 rebounds.
