Figure skater finishes third in NHK Trophy Short…’Jump perfection was lacking’

South Korean figure women’s single “Ganpan” Lee Hae-in (Sehwa Girls’ High School) finished third in the short program at the NHK Trophy, the sixth edition of the 2023-2024 International Ice Skating Union (ISU) Figure Senior Grand Prix.

Lee earned a total score of 62.93 points in the women’s single short program with a technical score (TES) of 30.30 and an artistic score (PCS) of 32.63 at the event held on Thursday in Osaka, Japan.

Lee, who finished third behind Lindsey Shong Green of the United States (68.93 points) and Nina Pinzarone of Belgium (63.44 points), will determine her “medal color” through her free skate performance on Friday.

She will need to finish silver or better to secure a spot in the Grand Prix Final on Dec. 7 in Beijing, China. The Grand Prix Final is a “king of the hill” competition where only the top six performers of the season will compete.

It was a performance that left something to be desired in terms of jump perfection.

After starting her performance with a triple-lutz-triple-torso-loop combination jump, Lee was judged to have underrotated her triple jump (rotation of more than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees) and was deducted 1.18 points from her performance score (GOE). This was the same mistake she made in her short program at the third competition.

Lee earned a GOE of 0.42 points for her double axel and improved her score by executing her flying camel spin at the highest difficulty level, level 4.

However, on her third jump, a triple flip, she was judged both an Attention (use of edge) and a Quarter Landing (lack of rotation within 90 degrees), which cost her 1.36 performance points.

Lee finished her performance with a sit spin (level 3) and a change foot combination spin (level 3) followed by a step sequence (level 3), but she did not look satisfied.

Kim Yerim, last year’s NHK Trophy winner who competed alongside her, finished seventh with 59.33 points after a triple lutz she attempted with her first jump was downgraded, while Wee Seo-young (Surigyo – 60.63 points) was sixth. 토토사이트
