Korea takes on Tunisia tonight at 8 p.m. at Seoul World Cup Stadium
Klinsmann’s team will look for its first back-to-back wins, with Cho Kyu-sung (Meatwillan) leading the attack.
The South Korean national soccer team, led by Jürgen Klinsmann, will open its October A campaign against Tunisia at 8 p.m. on Sept. 13 at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.
They will then face Vietnam at Suwon World Cup Stadium on the 17th.
After going winless in five matches with three draws and two defeats, Klinsmann’s side recorded a 1-0 victory over Saudi Arabia in Europe last month and will be looking for their first back-to-back wins.
It will also be interesting to see if Klinsmann, who has been controversially criticized for his ‘frequent foreign trips’ and ‘K League hooliganism’, can silence his critics with a cool victory.
Son Heung-min, who is tied for second in the English Premier League (EPL) scoring rankings with six goals in the 2023-2024 season, will start the game from the bench.
Son Heung-min, who was excluded from team training after joining the squad on Sept. 9 and worked with his teammates for the first time on Dec. 12, is expected to come on as a late substitute as a fitness measure.
Klinsmann will go with a more organized front line.
Lee Kang-in (Paris Saint-Germain-PSG) will partner Hwang Hee-chan (Wolverhampton) and Lee Jae-sung (Mainz), who are tied for fourth in EPL scoring.
In the midfield, Park Yong-woo (Al Ain) and Hong Hyun-seok (Gent) will coordinate the offense.
Hwang In-beom (Zvezda) was initially named in the starting lineup, but was replaced by Hong Hyun-seok 15 minutes before kickoff.
“Hwang In-beom felt discomfort in his left adductor (inner thigh) during the warm-up and was not expected to play the full match, so after consulting with the coaching staff, we decided to replace him with Hong Hyun-seok,” the association explained.
Lee Ki-je (Suwon), Kim Min-jae (Bayern Munich), Jung Seung-hyun, and Seol Young-woo (Ulsan) will form the back four. Kim Min-jae wore the captain’s armband in place of Son Heung-min.
Kim Seung-kyu (Al-Shabab) will wear the goalkeeper’s gloves.
Chung Woo-young (Stuttgart), the top scorer at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games, was named to the substitutes’ bench.
Tunisia is ranked 29th by FIFA, lower than South Korea (26th).
However, South Korea trails the all-time series 1-1. They drew 0-0 away in 2002 and lost 0-1 at home in Seoul in 2014. 스포츠토토링크
