Son Heung-min has no intention of getting cocky by thinking about the title already.
Tottenham defeated Crystal Palace 2-1 in the 10th round of the 2023-24 Premier League (PL) at Selhurst Park in London, England on Sunday morning (4 a.m. ET).
With the win, Spurs, who are unbeaten in their opening 10 games, moved to 26 points and opened up a five-point gap at the top of the table.
Son Heung-min was the star of the show.
Tottenham had taken the lead through Joel Ward’s own goal early in the second half, but the one-goal lead was precarious.

The Spurs attack began in the 23rd minute of the second half, when Pape Matthäsar sent in a transition pass.
Brennan Johnson linked up well with James Maddison before delivering the ball into the box.
Son Heung-min, who had shown good positioning, slotted the ball home to make it 2-0.
Son’s goal proved to be the game-winner and he was named Man of the Match.
Heung-min is clearly the centerpiece of Tottenham’s unbeaten opening 10 games. He has eight goals and one assist in 10 league games. He is now just two goals off his 10-goal league tally from last season.
OPTA, a soccer statistics site, highlighted Tottenham’s extraordinary run at the top.
“Spurs are top of the PL with a five-point goal difference. This is the biggest gap since Spurs were eight points clear of second place on the final day of the 1960-61 season, their last league title-winning campaign.”
It’s been 62 years since Spurs have been so comfortable atop the table, with 19 teams separating them from the top spot.
There are glimmers of hope that Tottenham can compete with Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool this season and even win the title.
However, Son is not ready to start thinking about the title just yet. “I’m not thinking about it (winning the title) at all,” he said in an interview after the game.
I can’t say that I can win the league because I have a lot of experience. It’s early in the season, so I just want to focus on the field and stay humble,” he said, adding that he hoped his teammates wouldn’t be lulled into complacency.
It’s not that Heung-min doesn’t want to win the title. No one wants to win more than Son Heung-min.
As captain, Heung-min is wary of his teammates’ complacency: “We want to get three points in every game. We’ll see what happens at the end of the season. We’re working hard, so we’ll see what happens,” he said.
“I’m enjoying every minute of it. The players are working very hard to win games like this. I’m happy to be here and help the team,” he said, giving credit to his teammates.
